For backyard chicken keepers, we stock essential supplies including feed, waterers, feeders, and coops. We also offer a selection of chicks seasonally (usually late Feb/early March and May), allowing you to start your flock with healthy, carefully raised birds.
Our beekeeping section is comprehensive, featuring hive bodies, supers, frames, and all the necessary tools for honey production. We provide both equipment for beginners and specialized items for experienced beekeepers.
For those interested in food preservation, we carry canning supplies, dehydrators, and fermentation equipment. Our selection of canning jars comes in various sizes to suit all your preserving needs.
When it’s time for bulk projects like large area seeding, beeswax or cheese cloth projects, we have supplies that you can see the quality of in our brick and mortar store.
City Farmers Nursery also stocks gardening tools, bulk organic fertilizers, and soil amendments to support your vegetable gardens and fruit trees. We offer unique varieties of vegetable seedlings and fruit trees that you won't find in typical stores, perfect for diversifying your homegrown produce.

A San Diego Legacy Since 1972
City Farmers Nursery has been a cornerstone of the San Diego community since its founding in 1972 by Bill Tall, affectionately known as Farmer Bill. Starting as a small roadside stand, the nursery has grown into a 1.5-acre destination for gardening enthusiasts. Bill’s vision was to create a place that not only offered quality plants but also provided free gardening advice and education to all visitors.
Over the years, City Farmers has expanded its offerings to include a wide range of native plants, edibles, and ornamental varieties. The nursery is dedicated to supporting local schools by helping establish gardens and providing resources for educational programs. Community give-back is a key part of its mission, with regular donations to local nonprofits.
City Farmers also hosts free events throughout the year, including workshops and classes that promote sustainable gardening practices. Services such as soil testing, plant diagnosis, and space planning are available to assist gardeners in their projects.
Today, under the leadership of Bill's son Sam Tall, City Farmers Nursery continues to thrive as a family-owned business, maintaining its commitment to quality, education, and community support while honoring the legacy of its roots.
