Plant Guilding

At City Farmers Nursery, we believe in cultivating gardens that are not only beautiful but also highly functional.

One of the best ways to achieve this is through the practice of plant guilding, a holistic approach to companion planting that taps into the natural relationships between plants to foster a thriving ecosystem, practiced by Eric Saline.

Rather than seeing individual plants as isolated entities, plant guilding encourages us to view our garden as a collaborative community, where each plant plays a specific and supportive role.

In this informative workshop, Eric will delve into the many ways plants can work together for mutual benefit. From nutrient accumulators that draw up essential minerals from the soil, to mulchers that help retain moisture and suppress weeds, and insectaries that attract beneficial pollinators and predators, there are countless roles plants can take on in a well-designed guild. By understanding these different functions, gardeners can create balanced ecosystems that minimize the need for fertilizers, pesticides, and extra effort.

Eric will also provide practical examples of successful plant guilds that have been tried and tested in real gardens. These tried-and-true combinations work harmoniously together, promoting soil health, enhancing biodiversity, and improving overall garden productivity.

Join us to explore how the art of plant guilding can help you design your garden for both beauty and sustainability. Learn to think of your plants as a team working together to create a resilient, flourishing garden that requires less effort and provides greater rewards.
