If you’re thinking about raising chickens in San Diego, we will have three breeds available this late spring of 2024. We expect chicks to be available for take home on Saturday, June 1st. We open at 9a.
Breeds we will be releasing mid-March include:
Golden Wyandotte
Ameraucana
Rhode Island Red
Our chicks are carefully selected for raising in an urban yard environment, but we rely on you to do your homework on local laws and ordinances :)
These breeds tend to do well as family-friendly, but remember, chicks are social and do best in a flock of three or more.
Please note, due to demand, this season we will limit 8 chicks per family/customer. Thank you for understanding!
All chicks are female (sexed) and come vaccinated for Coccidiosis and Meraks.

Gorgeous combination feathers in rich golden bay, laced with a beautiful greenish-black, these Wyandottes were originally called “Winnebagoes” if you can believe it! Showstopper no matter what you call ‘em, these are heritage breed birds with large brown eggs. They tolerate the heat and cold and have rose colored combs.
Clean (featherless) legs, females will mature at about 6.5 lbs somewhere around mid-October.
Beautiful blue-egg layers, Ameraucanas are medium in size with pea combs, and very hardy and come in a wonderful combination of colors an color patterns. You’ll have a beautiful laying flock when you include these sweet natured gals.
They tolerate heat and the cold and have clean (featherless) legs, females will mature at around 4lbs and they’re good egg layers. You can expect around 22 weeks to maturity… so somewhere around mid-October.
Call us fans of the classics, Rhode Islands are one of the most popular chicken breeds. No other heavy breed lays more or better eggs than these Reds! On average, somewhere from 280-365 eggs a year during their egg-producing years. Baby chicks are a blond-red rusty color who mature into gorgeous shades of mahogany reds.
Large eggs come from these heat and cold tolerant ladies. They’re good meat birds and females will weigh about 6.5lbs at maturity.
Caring for Chickens
The guidance on the left are for hens, below are tips on baby chicks, as well:
Heat or add a warming light if the temperatures drop below 70 degrees if outside or in a cold room
When bringing them home, dip their beaks into water in their new enclosure
Feed chicks start and grow until they begin laying (somewhere around 5-6 month of age)
Keep away from full grown chickens until their full feathers have come in
If its hot out give them chicken-safe electrolytes
Water must be kept very clean for the first month to prevent sickness
Manually check vents (butts) don’t get poop caked on them
