Whether you are a vender, supplier, service business, fellow business owner, neighbor, or loyal customer or friend.
Whether you’ve just found us this year or have come in for decades, whether you visit once in a while come in multiple times a week.
Whether you’ve worked for us, with us, alongside us, or in your garden thinking of us, I wish to send the following message to each and every one of you personally.
It has been and is a true pleasure to be able to own City Farmers Nursery for almost half of a century. Starting in 1972, at the age of 16, never in my thoughts or dreams could I have seen what it has grown into.
But it takes, and has taken, a whole community of partners to get here. Each and every one of you has contributed to it’s slow, steady growth and the way it has blossomed.
From having product on the shelf, having water and electric to run the operation, keeping the records, getting advice from many teachers and mentors in the trade, and the dozens of people who help me run the entire operation smoothly, and last but not least (!!) my supporters, My Customers. It’s because of you that we’re here, another year, doing what we love.
I am so grateful to be able to live the life that I love so much. To get up each morning excited to be helping you all with your plant and gardening needs, and the ability to be creative in the evolution of what you see and experience today at the nursery.
To the best of my ability to with the advice I’ve learned over decades, working with mother nature’s logic and simplicity, and keeping your health, your yard’s health, and nature’s health in mind, while doing so, together we’ve shared 45 years of knowledge. Growing successful plants brings us calmness, stress relief, beauty, family time, and… the list goes on and on.
Even though it’s been over decades of diagnosis and inspiring gardeners, I am learning more and more to share with all of you! You never stop learning.
This year’s letter comes to you as I am wrapping up treatment for cancer at a clinic in Mexico. So much has come from my three-year journey to this point. This bump in the road is a mixed blessing to me: it has brought me so much more to share, to learn, and the joy and understanding of the support from so many. I'm heading home today and ready to continue to the next chapter.
I want to say to all of you a mega-sized THANK YOU. For your support, of my health. For you telling your friends about the nursery. For the social media you use to say nice things about us. For the talks many of us have had when we meet. For kind and friendly words. For supportive words. For the smiles you bring in each day. For the joy you have in what we do.
From my family and team and I, here is to a wonderful holiday season and a happy and healthy new year.
